EIGHTH DAY

The Senate met at 11:00 a.m. pursuant to adjournment and was called to order by the President.

The President announced that a quorum of the Senate was present.
Pastor John Stennfeld, Christ Lutheran Church, Austin, offered the invocation as follows:
Dear heavenly Father, we thank You through Jesus Christ, Your dear son, that You have kept us this night from all harm and danger, and we pray that You would keep us this day also from sin and every evil, that all our doings in life may please You. For into Your hands we commend our very selves, our bodies and souls, and all things. Let Your holy angels be with us, that the evil foe may have no power over us. Use us this day, both as individuals and as the servant leaders of this state, as the instruments of Your grace, that through our deeds and decisions and actions, others may be blessed, not only here in Texas but even throughout the entire world. This I pray in Your most holy name. Amen.
Senator Whitmire moved that the reading of the Journal of the proceedings of the previous day be dispensed with and the Journal be approved as printed.
The motion prevailed without objection.
PHYSICIAN OF THE DAY
Senator West was recognized and presented Dr. David Schneider of Dallas as the Physician of the Day.
The Senate welcomed Dr. Schneider and thanked him for his participation in the Physician of the Day program sponsored by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.
